Our story begins in St. Joseph on October 17, 1972 The birth of Marshall Bruce. His mother Deborah Nelson gave birth to him at the age of 17. His father left home shortly after he was born and moved to California.

Eminem was raised by his mother. He had two half-brothers on his father’s side and one half-brother on his mother’s side. He spent most of his childhood in frequent crossings between St. Joseph and Kansas City, until finally at the age of 12 his family settled in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan. During his youth he wrote letters to his father but they were all returned.

In his second album “The Slim Shady LP”, most of the songs were blunt, dirty and violent. The songs had autobiographical texts that talked about Eminem’s difficult childhood in his poor neighborhood, his abusing mother, drug use and sex.

The second album was a great success and became one of the best-selling albums in 1999. On the first week it sold over 283,000 thousand copies. Until today it has sold over 15 million copies. The album received triple platinum by the RIAA and won two Grammy Awards: Best Rap Album and Best Rap Solo Performance.
