I woke up this morning to some very upsetting news. As I picked up the newspaper like I do every morning “Stock Market Crash” was boldly stamped as the headlines. I nearly dropped my cafe at the site of the news. My wife seen my facial expression change so quickly she was prepared for the worst. A very large portion of our income was placed into the stock market, more specify wheat in the Great Plains.
From years of over-planting the production of wheat based products has sky rocketed above consumer demand. This has made the cost of wheat substantially low. The effects of this action has inflated my assets in the stock market. The main conflict of this is that I am a man with a growing family that depends on my business decisions in the stock market. I must provide for them and I can only predict that times will only get harder. Later that afternoon I asked my wife to check our bank account as I investigated the stocks in for my own eyes.

Earlier today Mark had asked me to run down to the bank to check on our account. Honestly I have no idea why he would make such a request it’s been one year of bank failure nationwide. Nearly every single bank has little to no money and our bank with our lifesaving is one of those banks. My husband keeps telling me it will be okay but with no money how will we be able to take care of our children. This was unbelievable three years ago when we had that beautiful home with a white picket fence.
When I got to the bank it seemed as a ghost town. No one was there in fact no one was even near the bank. I wasn’t even sure if the bank was open until I opened the door and saw the bank keeper. He was just setting there not even phased by my presents in the bank. His monotone voice was a exact match of the bank, filled with hopelessness. When I left the bank our finances were in the same state if not getting worst. I just hope for a brighter future for our children.

It’s hard to believe that just two years ago that all of this was acres upon acres of lust wheat crops. I remember the times where when the wind blew the fields. You could see a golden wave in my crops. The livestock where handled with care by my wife Judy. Our youngest children would be running around chasing the chickens and my oldest son riding his horse. Judy would always be smiling at the door when we all came back dirty but happy from a day of work. The house used to be so clean and fresh. Those where my memories before the black blizzards.
Now every single aspect of my life has been put down like my starving cattle by the government. This dust has taken a lot from me but one thing it will not take is my family. This pass month I could see the storms getting worst so one thing has to change. I have been talking to my brother recently and he has agree to take my family in his household. They begged and cried to stay but they had to leave to survive. I will take care of what is left of the farm sending what I make to them. I heard my oldest boy talking about getting a job as soon as he could to help the family.

The New Deal is what President Roosevelt has called his plan to help us the American people. The plan is made up of three stages:
Relief- to help those in need.
Recovery- to promote the American economy.
Reform- to ensure this Depression will not happen again.
I am a strong supporter of President Roosevelt’s plan I believe we must work together for this change for the better. The president is just one man with a huge problem but all of us collected is a nation of unstoppable means. This was part of my speech to the public to help restore faith into our country.
That day I’m sure most Americans could have agreed with me knowing that we can start getting out of this mess with the leadership of President Roosevelt. When I walk home everyday I can see the misery that many are facing. In fact my closest friend livings in a small Hooverville across town and there was a bread line more than 4 blocks long. When I asked the president about how he was going to fix this he told me the only way there is which is to make laws. So he said as soon as possible he would be talking with congress about what changes need to be in place.
