Ten reasons why being an author and a startup entrepreneur are similar
1. You know that on the one hand, statistically speaking, your chances are one in a hundred or even one in a thousand, but you still have to believe that you are going to be that one.
2. Good writing and good innovation rely on what I call ‘thinking between the boxes’, i.e., connecting things in unanticipated ways.
3. It’s basically you against the world. A lonely business.
4. You need to have a supportive network and environment to be at your creative best.
5. The chances of financial wealth are slim. The chance of losing money is great (try to limit yourself to a given personal budget).
6. You have to be passionate about your craft, your innovation. Excitement is infectious.
7. You need a community who care about what your are creating.
8. It looks easy, but only in retrospect.
9. You need to know the rules, and then go ahead and break them (but for a reason).
10. You need presentation and marketing skills to sell your manuscript, your invention, your website, your dream.
