JOE: (to Chris) What are you going to do?

CHRIS: (to Joe) I’m going to turn you in.

JOE: (to Chris) You can’t do that, son. Think of your mother.

CHRIS: (to Joe) I’ve thought of nothing else. But what you did was wrong. 21 pilots died because of you.

JOE: (to Chris) I know, I know. But I did it for us, for our family.

CHRIS: (to Joe) That’s no excuse. You have to take responsibility for your actions.

JOE: (to Chris) You’re right. I’ll turn myself in.

CHRIS: (to Joe) I can’t stay here and be a part of this. I’m leaving town.

JOE: (to Chris) I understand.

(Chris exits)

(Joe sits alone, staring into space)

(Jim enters)

JIM: (to Joe) Joe, I’ve heard the news. I’m sorry for what happened.

JOE: (to Jim ) It’s all my fault, Jim . I’ve caused so much pain and suffering.

JIM: (to Joe) Joe, you have to make amends for your actions.

JOE: (to Jim ) That’s what I plan to do.

JIM: ( to Joe) Joe, I have an idea. Why don’t you turn yourself in and accept responsibility for your actions?

JOE: (to Jim ) That’s what I was thinking.

JIM: (to Joe) And, Joe, I’ll be there with you every step of the way.

JOE: (to Jim ) Thank you, JIM.

(Joe takes a deep breath and stands up)

JOE: (to the audience) I’ve made a terrible mistake, and I’ll have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. But, with the support of my friends and community, I’ll do everything in my power to make amends for my actions.

(Joe and Jim exit the stage together)
