Last week, I couldn’t make it to class. When I asked my friend, Michal how it was and what I missed, she said that this course is going to be special and different, not like any other course we’ve taken before. She told me that the lecturer asked the students to be vulnerable. Vulnerable? I was surprised. Why would a lecturer ask you to be vulnerable? She said that the lecturer believes that one of our biggest problems is the fear of what others will think of us, how we are perceived by others. That’s true, I thought to myself. How much are we trapped by social norms, by right or wrong, by what we should or shouldn’t do? Suddenly I realized that a course that I had chosen, by chance, could be significant for me and provide more added value than any other course I have taken in the past three years. The artist Tuna has a song called “Ya’2” which talks about school, but it is also completely relevant here, as schools focus on achievements and accomplishments and do not provide real tools for students to “cope with life.” But I know that in order for this course to really be meaningful and provide added value for me, I must agree to leave my comfort zone, even though I have built a kingdom there. I have to agree to speak in English despite the fear, to step out of the abnormal, strange, and perhaps even weak- I am human  after all.  I have to surrender. I believe that nothing happens for no reason, of course, you can always say that everything is just a coincidence, but what’s the fun in that? So I totally think that it’s not just random that I’m in this course. It’s time to dare to leave the comfort zone
