Have you always wondered how it is that “Gil”, this dairy product that many call “Leben”, has always been here?

Since we were young and even since our parents were babies, it was always in our or the neighbors’ fridge with its unique taste?
sitting on the dairy product shelf in every grocery store and supermarket.

This is the true story of “Gil” and its inventor, Zvi Golombik.

Zvi was a Lithuanian Zionist, who during the First World War decided to do “Aliya” to Israel as part of a group of immigrants that received the name “Ahva”- Brotherhood. At first the group engaged in construction work and then settled in Kibbutz Sarid, which is also my kibbutz.

After several years of working in the kibbutz branches, Zvi began to act as one of the founders of “Tnuva” and became one of its board members.

He was one of the leaders of the company’s dairy industry and was the entrepreneur who led the transition from glass containers to cardboard and plastic containers.

As a socialist, he led Tnuva to a cooperative made up of dairies all over the country that contributed greatly to the streamlining and development of the milk market in the country.

Zvi was also a family man and thus we return to the story from which we started. As part of his work at the dairy he worked on finding new flavors of dairy products. when he found the flavors he was looking for, he dedicated them to his beloved grandchildren.

This is how Leben “Raz” was created, whose creation was stopped many years ago, and “Gil” that we all know.

Two brothers who were my neighbors when I was a little boy growing up in Sarid, and now live in  kibbutz Samar in the south of the Israel.

Today Gil is already approaching retirement age, Zvi past away nearly fifty years ago and even Tnuva was sold to a Chinese company.

But everyday dozens of new and delicious “Gil” cups are produced.
that were actually always here, thanks to one grandfather who dedicated his life to the dairy industry, dared to invent and loved his grandchildren very much.
