Protection of sea turtles

Let’s all make an effort and take care to preserve the environment, also to make it more pleasant for us, and especially to preserve and save the animals in their natural habitat. Pick up the garbage after you, avoid making bonfires in the sea, pick up bags, plastic cups and this is how we will protect the animals

The rescue center works to restore the local sea turtle populations in a variety of ways: physical protection of the eggs laid on the beaches, restoration of the green sea turtle population through nurturing and maintaining the reproduction of this species, surveys and research, education, information and raising awareness through the media, and holding guided tours for the public. It should be noted that the treatment of the recovering turtles relies to a large extent on the help of volunteers.

Shay Kabasa, the inspector of the Nature and Parks Authority in the marine unit, was called to the beach in Nahariya following a call from fishermen who were in the middle of the sea off the coast of Nahariya and found an injured brown sea turtle.

The fishermen noticed a turtle having difficulty diving, when they approached it they noticed a trail of blood trailing behind it, they hurried to jump into the water and put the turtle on the boat. Not an easy task since it is an adult turtle weighing between 30-40 kilos.

A fishing line got tangled in the turtle’s right hand and caused a serious injury.

The turtle was transferred for further tests and treatment at the Trawl Turtle Rescue Center.

The turtle arrived at the sea turtle hospital in serious condition. There the turtle underwent extensive tests and an operation to remove a limb since it was necrotic and parts of the arm bone had already disintegrated.

The caregivers very much hope that his health will improve and are working as much as possible to save him.
