Alternative Ending To “All My Sons”

Joe Keller, burdened by guilt, stands before his family and makes a bold declaration:

JOE: “I can’t live with this on my conscience any longer. I have to tell the truth.”

Kate and Chris are stunned by Joe’s confession.

KATE: “What are you talking about, Joe?”

CHRIS: “Dad, what’s going on?”

JOE: “I shipped out faulty parts during the war. And then I covered it up. Those parts caused the deaths of American soldiers. I’m guilty, and I’m ready to accept the punishment for my actions.”

Chris steps forward, pledging to support his father.

CHRIS: “I’m with you, Dad. We’ll face this together.”

KATE: “Think of the family, Joe. We’ll lose everything.”

But Joe remains resolute.

JOE: “We’ve already lost everything, Kate. The only way to make it right is to tell the truth.”

With that, Joe and Chris leave to turn themselves in. Kate is left alone, grappling with the truth of their success built on a foundation of lies.
