The Model Y is a mid-size crossover SUV powered by batteries that Tesla has been manufacturing from 2020. The Model Y is built upon the chassis of the Model 3 sedan. It shares an estimated 75% of its parts with the Tesla Model 3, and it shares a similar exterior and interior design, along with an electric drivetrain. In contrast to the mid-sized Tesla Model X, the Model Y is more affordable and caters to a more specific niche.
The Model Y has third-row seating available and can seat seven passengers, just like the Model X. The product was first unveiled in March 2019, manufacture started in January 2020 at the Fremont Factory, and on March 13, 2020, delivery started. In the first quarter of 2023, the Model Y outsold the sales of the Toyota Corolla to become the first-ever electric car to be declared the best-selling vehicle globally.
Pre-launch Period
In 2013, Tesla Motors filed to register the “Model Y” trademark. In 2015, Elon Musk made a suggestion about a Model Y based on the Model 3 with falcon-wing doors. A preview of the 2017 Model Y shape was shown to Tesla shareholders at the June annual general meeting. Elon Musk also announced that the Model Y would be produced at a new factory, citing the unlikely scenario that the Fremont facility would have sufficient capacity for an additional manufacturing line.
CEO Musk unveiled a new silhouette in June 2018. It was reported with the new image that a formal announcement of the Model Y would take place in March 2019. The announcement of the Model Y was originally scheduled for 2018, but it was postponed until 2019 due to production issues with the Model 3.
The first production version of the Model Y’s finalized design was authorized by Elon Musk in October 2018, albeit production wouldn’t begin until 2020. On March 3, 2019, Elon Musk tweeted announcing the launch date and confirming a number of features. Musk stated that regular doors will be utilized on the car rather than the falcon-wing doors found on the Model X.
Release Date
At a press conference held at Tesla’s design facility in Hawthorne, California, on March 14, 2019, Elon Musk unveiled the Tesla Model Y and revealed its specifications. Following the presentation, participants were also given the opportunity to take numerous Model Y cars for test drives. On March 13, 2020, Tesla released the Model Y owner’s manual and began shipping the vehicle to customers.
Changes
May 2021 is the manufacturing date for vehicles without lumbar support on passenger seats. Radar for adaptive cruise control is no longer installed in vehicles made after April 2021. Tesla eliminated the ultrasonic parking sensors at the beginning of 2023. It has been demonstrated that automated parking systems that just rely on cameras are unreliable.
Model Y New Upgrades
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, stated on July 25, 2021, that the company would present an upgraded Model Y design by the end of 2021. Now a Tesla aftermarket expert, has unveiled a brand-new beadlock off-road wheel designed especially for the Model Y. For the Model Y, the brand-new 18-inch UP-03 Beadlock Off-Road Spec Forged Wheels represent a paradigm shift in the world of EV all-terrain driving, combining unrivalled performance with versatility that extends beyond the trail.
The wheels’ specially developed design, which permits two distinct tire mounting techniques, is what makes them a party piece. In order to fully utilize beadlock technology, the tire’s bead is positioned outside the wheel rim and fastened to the wheel using titanium hardware. This makes it possible to use low tire pressure in off-road conditions.
The tire permits conventional bead mounting inside the wheel rim for daily and highway driving, with or without the beadlock ring installed. As a result, Unplugged Performance asserts that the wheel may provide lovers of off-roading and overlanding the best of both worlds.
With pride, they present our UP-03 Beadlock wheels. They provide as evidence of the functionality and design that characterize Unplugged Performance. Ben Schaffer, CEO of Unplugged Performance, stated that these wheels are a taste of what’s to come, with the highly anticipated Cybertruck about to be released.

Unplugged Performance New beadlock off-road wheels provide improved off-road performance, enabling tire pressure to be reduced by up to 5 psi to increase tire contact patch size. Because the UP-03 Beadlock wheels are made of high-strength forged aluminium for maximum lightweight durability, strength is another advantageous feature.
Specialty wheels for luxury, off-road, and street cars are available from XM Offroad Wheels. You can customize the accessories you purchase, and they are available in an array of styles and patterns to suit any kind of car.
