Academic writing is a way for enhancing the creative, research, and writing skills of students and preserving important information about a topic through papers. There are four main types of academic writing i.e. analytical, persuasive, descriptive, and critical serving various features and purposes.
In professional academic writing, many academic papers have more than one type; an example of that is an empirical thesis paper.
Analytical: Students in universities usually fall prey to analytical paper writing as it includes descriptive writing with more description. It includes groups, categories, examples, types etc.
Persuasive: This type has all the features of analytical writing along with the addition of the researcher’s own point of view. Its purpose is to persuade the reader for their argument.
Descriptive: This is the simplest academic writing type and its purpose is to provide factual information. For e.g: An article summary or an experiment report.
Critical: This is the most common academic writing approach for graduate and postgraduate degree students. It combines the features of persuasive writing with two other point of views on the topic.
