Do you wish that you knew more about taking care of your teeth instead of just letting your dentist do his or her thing each visit? Wouldn’t you like to care for your own teeth throughout the whole year? You probably do; keep reading to find out what you need to know.

Cavities, also known as dental caries, happen when tooth enamel is weakened. Enamel is weakened by bacteria and then cavities form. You should visit your dentist for a cleaning a couple of times annually to avoid cavities. During your visits, your dentist will make x-rays of your teeth to ensure you have no cavities forming.
If you are having a hard time brushing your teeth efficiently, you should consider getting an electric toothbrush. These devices are very efficient and will allow you to clean your teeth thoroughly without having to brush vigorously. This is your best option if you have arthritis or if your children do not brush their teeth properly.
Never assume that skipping your dental appointment is okay. Everyone should start getting dental care as soon as they are six months old. Dental check-ups should be done every six months after. This holds true for children, teenagers, adults and the elderly. Everyone needs to see a dentist twice a year past their first birthday.
Flossing isn’t always easy. If you have a hard time working the floss down and then back up again, consider picking up a product that is “waxed.” You can also look for a floss holder, which should assist you in getting the floss to do what you need it to do.
You should brush for a minimum of two minutes. Each tooth should be brushed, beginning near your gum line and slowly moving upward to the top. Do not brush hard or you will hurt your teeth. Use a softer toothbrush if your gums tend to hurt when you brush.
