who is Cher?

She was born on may 20,1946, she is an American singer, actress, and television personality, frequently hailed by the media as the “Goddess of Pop.” She is celebrated for representing female empowerment in a male-dominated industry.

At 16, Cher left school, moved out of her mother’s home, and relocated to Los Angeles with a friend. She enrolled in acting classes and supported herself by dancing in small clubs along Hollywood’s Sunset Strip, while introducing herself to performers, managers, and agents. As Berman notes: “[Cher] did not hesitate to approach anyone she thought could help her get a break, make a new contact, or get an audition.”

November 1962, Cher met performer Sonny bono, they  became close friends, eventual lovers, and performed their own unofficial wedding ceremony in a hotel room in Tijuana, Mexico, on October 27, 1964.

Cher and Sonny had had marital problems since late 1972, but appearances were maintained until 1974, they ended up getting a divorce on June 26, 1975
