The narrator of the story was travelling by the ship from San Francisco ,

american to Yokohama in japan.

The story start in the ship when the room was shared with

the narrator and Mr.Kelada

the narrator did no like the look of it there were too many labels

on the suitcases ,and the wardrobe trunk was too big

he had unpacked his toilet things and the narrator observed

that he was attorney of the excellent Monsieur Coty for i saw

on the washing-stand his scent , his hair washed and his brilliantine

in the room of smoking mr.kelada and the narrator setting at the same

table to play patience

One evening while Mr.kelada , the narrator , the doctor ,Mr.ramsay

and Mrs.ramsay were dinning thy were discussing about pearls thy talked that

the cunning Japanese were making unoriginal pearls and the doctor said that they must inevitably diminish the value of real ones they will be perfect soon Mr.Kelada has his habit begun to show them that he know all about pearls he was very vehement and voluble say the narrator Mr.kelada pointed to china that Mrs.Ramsay wore and say to her that this chain will never be less that it is now, but Mr.Ramsay said that his wife bought it just for 18$ that they had a bit on it for 100$. Mr.kelada took his magnifying glasses and closely examined it and smiled triumph smile. He handed back the chain and noticed to Mrs.Ramsay face turned white then he knew the fact that she was cheating on her housebound and paid 100$.

In the morning Mrs.Ramsay went to Mr.kelada and gave him the 100$ because Mr.Kelada knew that Mrs.Ramsay had the real chain of pearls. Mr.Kelada stopped Mrs.Ramsay and wanted her to say to why did she cheated on her housebound . She told him that what she did was because of her housebound who traveled and left her alone, so she felt so lonely and wanted a change in her life. And the one that she id with now is to good with her and gives her a lot of things. After all, he understood her situation and told her that he wants to be her friend .
