There are some men who meet at 249 East 35th Street, New York. They like stories. All through the year they meet in the strange house to tell each other stories. The visitors to the house tell their stories, then leave. And sometimes they are terrible stories:stories the men wish they had not heard. Like the one that Dr. McCarron tells on a freezing winter’s night. The story of Sandra Stansfield and her baby.
The story of the doctor’s Breathing Method and how poor Sandra uses it in the last, terrible moments of her life.

One Thursday before Christmas, the elderly physician Dr. Emlyn McCarron tells a story about Sandra Stansfield, who was unmarried pregnant woman, no matter what, despite financial problems and social disapproval.
McCarron comes to admire her bravery and humor, and the implication is that he has even fallen a bit in love with her.
The doctor teaches her the breathing method, which will help her deliver the baby.

One evening when she gets the first contraction she phones Dr. McCarron and afterwards, she takes a taxi and drives to the hospital.

A few meters before the hospital they have an accident.
The car skids and crashes into an ambulance.
The woman’s head is cut off, but her body is still breathing.
McCarron arrives at the crash site and realizes that Sandra is still alive.
The doctor could deliver the baby, and when he has finished he sees Sandra’s head lying on the street. She opens her eyes and says four words: “Thank you, Doctor McCarron”.
My opinion about this story is positive, because it is very interesting to read.
I think all people who like horror stories will like this book.
