On the 6th of October, 1973 The Arab coalition forces attacked Israel from many fronts. One of the main fronts was an attack through Sinai. After the Egyptians conquered most of sinai, the israeli tank forces counterattacked to try and conquer back their territory.

Yohanan Gur, Nimrod Gazit, Baruch Lissitzky and Yeshayahu Ben-Dov were all graduates from the military boarding school in Haifa. After they finished high school they enlisted into the tank regiment 14, unit 79 together. During November 1972, the Yom Kippur War, their unit was sent into Sinai.

Their unit excelled and destroyed many enemy tanks and infantry. During the following battle, the Battle over the Chinese Farm, their tank lost eye contact with the unit. Shortly after their tank was hit. While calling for help they were forced to abandon the tank. Even though they were fighting against tanks they continued to advance with only hand guns.

Their remains were later found scattered around the battlefield. Nimrod Gazit’s remains were only found 5 months later when the Egyptians returned Nimrod’s body. No one knows the circumstances of their deaths. After their death all four of them were promoted to second lieutenant, and decorated for bravery by the Chief of General Staff (רמטכ״ל). 

After their fallen tank was recovered it was put as a monument in Latrun, the official tank memorial “graveyard”.

After many years on the 18th of June, 2013 the “Chetz” (חץ) company from the Military Boarding School in Haifa managed to bring the tank to the Pnimiya. The tank is a very important monument to us and part of our legacy.
