Dear Diary,
WW2 is finally over-5 long years of fighting came to an end and I am back at home. During the war, i was a commander of a company-200 of our finest man.
They really became brother, and I was like a father to them. We all took care of each other, and put other welfare and even their lives over our own. Once, it was so raining and I could not find any of my dry socks, so my soldiers gave me their own dry socks and walked around in wet socks- this is just an example.
The war was not easy, and more than a half of the company died. I, as commander, felt responsible to their death and even a little guilty by the fact that I am alive while they are dead. I wondered how am I better than them? had no answer.
My only comfort during the war was the hope that it will create a better American society, with solidarity between citizens like the one that develops between soldiers. I figured, a society witch sacrificed its best young man in an endeavor to keep justice and freedom would become a better one. Unfortunately, I was wrong.
