Many animals like bears and bats hibernate or go into a deep sleep in the winter.

Animals prepare for hibernation by gathering food and prepare their bed by adding leaves to lay on top of.

Animals hibernate because their food is not available in the winter time like fruit. Hibernation is their way of surviving the winter.

So by going into a deep sleep, they save energy because they are not looking for and eating food.

Animal hibernation can last a few days or up to a few months. So next time you see an animal in deep sleep in the winter, you’ll know they are hibernating!
