Ones upon a sad time in the 1941, lived i girl named Lois Gunden, She was twenty- six years old.
she was an American French teacher for Goshen,indiana .
one day she desided to start working with the Mennonite Central Committee in southern France,which means she will have to go far away from home!
She will become a rescuer of children.

Losi Gunder joined the Mennonite organization Secours Mennonite aux Enfants in Lyon, and was sent to establish a children’s home in Canet Plage, on the seaside of Mediterranean. The children’s home became a safe place to all children but mostly for Spanish refugee children as well as for Jewish children. All of the children that are in this childrens home are children that have been smuggled out of the nearby internment camp of Rivesaltes.

Losi Gunden kept a diary and wote down all of her activatis in it.(witch proves great courag)
One morning while the children were on a walk, a policeman came inorder to arrest three of the jewish children, Losi told him that the children will only be back at noon so the policeman came back and told Losi to back up the three of the children’s belongings. Losi prayed and prayed and prayed’ and the policeman never came back and the children were safe again.

In November 1942 the Germans concord Southern France. Losi Gunden continued to run the children’s center. In January 1943 she was detained by the Germans only to be released in one year (1944) in a prisoner exchange. Losi Gunden was released in 1944 and went home to Indiana and got married to a widow in 1958, Ernest Clemens. She was never had any children of her own, but she did gained a step-daughter through her marriage. She continued teaching french at Goshen college University!
