THE FLOTILLA DISASTER

The flotilla disaster occurred in September 1997, in which 12 soldiers were killed .

On the night of September 4-5, 1997, a force of 16 fighters left for a secret operation in Lebanon. The mission was to ambush a charge against a senior member of the Amal organization. 

Towards 9:00 PM, the force reaches the shore between Tzur and Tzadon, and the soldiers start walking. When the force is hit by an explosion, 11 soldiers are killed.

The first rescue force was 12 fighters who arrived at 00:30 and began evacuating the wounded and dead.

Since the shooting started, the rescue force was forced to board the plane and leave the area when two bodies were left in enemy territory.
