A Tale Dark and Grimm

Hansel and Gretel is a story about two siblings who go on a adventure after running away from their parents after finding out a dark secret. They meet with witches, demons, and other creatures. They go through many difficult times as they meet with many people who want to hurt them. Their goal is to survive and stay together. It is a new way to see the life of Hansel and Gretel that we usually know. It teaches the meaning of family and courage.

The book was written by Adam Gidwitz and was published in 2010.

Hansel is a brave young boy who always faces challenges.

Gretel is a caring young girl who thinks about others before herself.

Johaness is a faithful servant to the kind and queen. He is very old and has served the kingdom for many many years.

King and Queen are parents of Hansel and Gretel. The King is hiding a deadly secret from his family and the Queen used to be cursed.

Groan: make a deep inarticulate sound in response to pain or despair.

Wailed: give a cry of pain or anger

Tavern: an establishment for the sale of beer and other drinks to be consumed on the premises.

Bellowed: shout something with a deep loud roar.

Weaving: form into frabic by interlacing.

Eaves:the part of a roof that meets or overhangs the walls of a building.

Suffused: gradually spread through or over.

Mahogany: a kind of wood.

“You see, to find the brightest wisdom one must pass through the darkest zones. And through the darkest zones there can be no guide”

This quote means that life has it’s difficult moments but a person needs to go through with them alone to be strong.

“There is a wisdom in children, a kind of knowing, a kind of believing, that we, as adults do not have.”

This quote means that children are still innocent and are able to think more creatively than adults and may be able to fix problems better than adults.

I would recommend this book because it is very interesting and funny. I enjoyed reading it because it wasn’t so hard to read and I understood it even though there was some words that were difficult to understand. If you like fantasy, humor, and horror this book is good for you to read.
