My time in CIS

I have had a marvellous time learning at this amazing school. I have enjoyed meeting new people and learning interesting topics. I will never forget the first time I walked through the doors of CIS; the first time I walked into CIS when I was in key stage 1 and I was very shy and I didn’t know anybody except my current best friend Kika but over time I made more friends.

Around years 1 and 2 I found my favourite hobby, dancing, I loved I was always dancing in dance club trying to improve my skills.

In year 3 and 4 I began key stage 2 and got to: take part in the key stage 2 production, compete in the house choir challenges and use the bigger library. I remember practising dancing to a Pocahontas song for hours.

In year 5 I had an interesting class but thing I love the most were the experiments and the best activity we did was the field trips like the one to Eleganza.

In year 6 I had so much fun with my class full of people I have never been in a class with and looking at my best friends faces for the last time and I also loved becoming a prefect and representing my school. But, I really enjoyed taking part in the key stage two production as a dancer, an actor and a stagehand. I will never forget the hours we spent rehearsing our line and dance moves for the production.

Becoming a prefect

Since I was little I had always wanted to represent my school as a prefect, just like my brothers before me. So, the day Mrs Isa announced the nominees to be prefects I was so happy I wanted to cry. After I found out that I have officially been made a prefect I was so honoured I remember the day I got my badge like it was yesterday.

It was the second week into the 2017/2018 school year, it was a sunny Wednesday morning when Mrs Isa introduced my year’s leadership team to the rest of the school, this is when I got my badge and I found out that I am a class captain.

From the day I got my badge I have cherished it as it tells me that adults trust me to make the right choices and guide others to do the same in all circumstances.

Friendships

Over the years that I have spent in C.I.S I have made some amazing friends. These friends have made me happy when I was angry, joyful when I was sad and calm me down when I would overwork myself. In year 2 and 3 I made friends with my current second and third best friends. They were new so I decided to play with them from there we became good friends. As I went to different year groups I was in classes with new people; new people came to C.I.S resulting in me making more friends.

 I have learnt about…..

Numeracy: Ratio, volume, algebra and logic questions.

Literacy: I broadened my knowledge of plays and poems.

Science: Earthquakes, Different types of grass, the horror of drug misuse, How the heart works and the water cycle.

Topic: Mountains, Volcanoes, the earth’s crust, the spread of Christianity and Islam.

18

Number crunching numeracy

I this year I have academically improved in numeracy though I also learnt some new topics that mentioned earlier. I know I have improved in some topics like making and dissecting pie charts and solving fraction and percentages equations especially the ones that are made into algebra questions. I also think I improved because I began in the second highest group but it did not take too long into the second term before I was moved to the highest group.

Literally literacy

In year six I have learnt a lot more about topics such as Shakespearean Plays like Romeo and Juliet; Macbeth and Shakespearean plays being remade by modern authors. Later on, touched on and wrote pieces of writing such as debates, scary stories, short stories and speeches. I have very much improved my literacy skills as I have gone from the third highest literacy group to the second highest literacy.

Year 6

Year 6 alone has been an adventure, between African studies activities like the assembly and the production year six has been hectic. I remember my first day in year 6 I came a week late so I didn’t know where to sit so I just scrambled around. Afterwards, I was introduced to my new classmates; I had never been in the same class as the people in my class in year six. After a week I had settled into my class schedule and class routines. All through year six, it was my job to count the house points and submit it.

I very much enjoyed all our activities throughout my time in year six. The Edo expedition for African Studies when my class and I put on a scripted game show as a presentation. The second activity we did was an assembly on the Biafran war where I got to be a dancer and narrator for African Studies. The third activity was the French assembly where I got to dance. The fourth activity was a Tunisian Expedition where I and my group made a book about Tunisia then we presented a dance and powerpoint about Tunisia to Mrs Isa, other members of the school’s staff and parents. The fifth activity was our trip to the bread lounge where I got to make my own pizza, I had so much fun, I got to wear a Chef’s hat. The sixth activity was our trip to the Nike art gallery. The last activity that will round up the school year will be the key stage 2 production where I will be a dancer, a singer, an actor and a stagehand.

Choir Challenge

For the past four years, I have gotten to participate in the house choir challenge. It is so fun, I get to participate in an inter-house competition that does not revolve around sports, a competition that shows people with other talents. My first house choir challenge I was so excited as singing is one of my hobbies. I very much enjoyed practising, though I was very disappointed that after all my efforts Sycamore won but I was so happy when the next Acacia ( my house) won. I was full of joy to know all my effort was not in vain; the house choir challenge in 2015 was amazing in my opinion.

Inter-House sports competition

I don’t mind partaking in the inter-house sports competition it can be fun. I enjoy preparing for the house marching competition especially because I like dancing with my house. My favourite thing is enjoying a victory with my fellow acacias. Though I’m not athletic I enjoy congratulating my friends and housemates. In the end, I congratulate my friends in other houses if they win but I comfort them if they lose. I also enjoy buying snacks like suya and hot dogs during these events. This is always a fun and competitive experience.

Literacy and Science Week

I greatly enjoyed literacy and science week and the various activities like the healthy sandwich competition and meeting authors. My favorite activity was the healthy sandwich competition. My group did a bacon and cheese sandwich with tomato and lettuce with Milo as our drink because year six got Ghana and Ghana harvests cocoa. Another fun activity was the heart dissection where me, Nedum and Anjola dissected a goat heart.

At the end being in CIS primary has been a lovely experience full of fun, education, competitions and happiness that will help me no matter what as I face the rest of my school life and whatever challenges follow it. There is no other school I could have to help me grow mentally or physically the way CIS did I will never forget it.
