During his lifetime he was praised as a scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, painter, sculptor and architect. Leonardo is often described as the archetype of the Renaissance man or the universal genius, a man whose endless curiosity is comparable only to his ingenuity. He was born on April 15, 1452, probably in the village of Anciano, near the Arno River in the Tuscan region, about two and a half miles north of the town of Vinci, which was under the control of Florence. He was an illegitimate child to Sir Piero da Vinci
December 1515 Leonardo left Rome, as a member of the papal entourage to Florence and Bologna
Near the royal outpost of Amboise, in a mansion he had received from King Beko. He was appointed “painter of the king” and received a stipend of one thousand scudi a year. He lived on Calo’s estate until his death on 2 May 1519
Mona Lisa and La Gioconda are the names given to Leonardo Da Vinci’s painting from the early 16th century. The painting, centered on the portrait of a woman, became one of the most famous works of art in the world since the 20th century. It inspired admiration, protest, mockery and imitation in popular art, music and literature.
The portrait is displayed at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
