The Red Barracks
Its original name is Tofano Barrack,after lieutenent Bruno Tofano (dead at Montefalcone during World War I).
They building was commissioned by the king of Naples, Charles III
Before,on that spot,there was the Duke’s palace.
The building is squared (130 mt each side) and it has three floors. It is red. The original project was by engineer F. Romano.
Charles III chose Nocera Inferiore for its strategic position.
The front of the building shows high squared windows; on the terrace there are four orders of stairs.
Inside the building there is a large courtyard, surrounded by arches and columns.
The whole structure covers about 23000 mt.
Today the edifice is abandoned. It will be probabily destined to become a museum or an immigration hostel.

A Short Story About
The Red Barracks
In the Red Barracks there were a lot of soldiers. One of these was Carlo Conforti. He was born in 1915 and at the age of 20 he began to serve in the Red Barracks. In 1939 he was called to fight inthe Second World War and was sent to Germany.
In 1945 the war ended and he left for the United States.
There he met a woman called Ambra Pagano, and the two fell in love. In the same year they met, they married and had children. Ambra got sick and after a year she died. Carlo, out of despair, committed suicide and their children remained orphans.
