The Great Mosque of Mecca, also known as the Haram Mosque is a mosque that surrounds the Kaaba in the city of Mecca, in the Hejazi region of Saudi Arabia.

It is a site of pilgrimage for the Hajj, which every Muslim must do at least once in their lives if he is able, and it is also the main phase for the ʿUmrah, the lesser pilgrimage that can be undertaken any time of the year.

it was built by Ibrahim, with the help of his son Ismail. They were ordered by Allah to build the mosque and the Kaaba.

The Kaaba is the direction for all the Muslims to pray across the globe thus signifying unity among all.

The word “Al-Aqsa” means the most distant, and Al-Aqsa was named for the distance between it and Masjid al-Haram.
