Types of nouns

Today we will be discussing three different types of nouns.

Our objective for today will be to name, identify, and provide your own examples of each.

To start us off here is a short video.

Now that we’ve watched the video can you look around the room and identify at least five nouns?

The first type of nouns we will deal with are common nouns. Common nouns are used to identify general groups of things and ideas. They are not capitalized when used in a sentence. Image result for stapler

The second type of nouns we will work with are the proper nouns. These nouns represent particular people places or things. Examples include the names of states and people. Here is a picture of one more: Can anyone explain why this could be?Image result for stapler

The final type of nouns we will be dealing with for today will be collective nouns. Collective nouns represent groups or “collectives” of people, animals, or things. Image result for pride of lions

As a final activity for today we will break into groups and work on coming up and identifying different types of nouns. As a group You will come up with 30 examples of EACH type of noun we have discussed.
