Caretta caretta

The nesting areas of sea turtles in Türkiye and the number of nests made in a season are being monitored. Among the Green and Loggerhead sea turtle species that inhabit and nest in tropical and subtropical regions, the Green turtle nests only on the beaches of Türkiye and Cyprus in the Mediterranean, while the Loggerhead turtle has been found to nest on the beaches of Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Greece, Türkiye, and Cyprus. Protecting these species in the Mediterranean is therefore of great importanc.

European lynx

The European lynx is the largest wild cat in Ukraine. It lives in the deep forests of the Carpathians and Polissya. Lynxes are very shy and are rarely seen by people. But due to deforestation and hunting, very few of them remain. That is why the lynx is listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. It is important for nature, because it hunts sick animals and maintains the health of the forest. A lynx in the forest is a good sign!

The Anatolian Leopard

The Anatolian Leopard is one of the most precious symbols of Turkey’s biodiversity, yet it is critically endangered. Habitat loss, illegal hunting, and increasing human activities have pushed this magnificent predator to the brink of extinction. Protecting the Anatolian leopard is essential not only for the survival of the species but also for preserving the balance of the entire ecosystem. Therefore, supporting scientific research, strengthening conservation programs, and raising public awareness are vital steps in ensuring its future.

The Western Capercaillie

The Western Capercaillie is a big and beautiful bird that lives in the forests. In Romanian, it is called “Cocoșul de munte”. It is one of the largest birds in Europe and looks a bit like a wild turkey. The male capercaillie is big and strong. He has dark feathers, a green shiny chest, and a red spot above his eyes. The female is smaller and has brown feathers that help her hide in the forest. The capercaillie lives in mountain forests, especially in places with tall pine trees. It likes quiet and peaceful places. Every spring, the male capercaillie performs a beautiful dance and makes loud sounds to attract the female. This dance is very famous and fun to watch.

They eat grass, leaves, and young plants. Mouflons live in small groups, and males sometimes fight with their horns during the mating season. In Poland, the mouflon is close to extinction.
