İzledikleri film Ahmet’in günler öncesinde izlediği korku filmine benziyordu. Annesi ve babasından gizli izlemişti ve çok korkmuştu. Annesinin yanına sokularak filmi izlemeye devam etti.

(When they returned home, Ahmet went to his room sadly. He spent some time in his room. When he went to the living room, he saw his mother and father and started watching movies with them. The movie they watched was similar to the horror movie Ahmet watched a few days ago. He had watched the film secretly and was very scared. He continued to watch the movie, leaning to his mother.)

Ancak konuşamadığı için annesine hissettiklerini anlatamıyordu. Ama annesi Ahmet’in beden dilinden Ahmet’e neler olduğunu anlamaya başlamıştı.

(While Ahmet was watching the film, he was thrilling as if to lose his mind. Suddenly, he heard a voice outside and he rushed out. He was effected by the film that he watched a few days ago. But he couldn’t explain himself because he couldn’t speak. But his mother understood his feelings because of his behaviours.)

Ahmet odasında tam uyuyacak iken bir rüzgar çıktı. Ahmet’in odasındaki beyaz perde kıpırdamaya başladı. Korkudan ne yapacağını bilemiyordu. Hemen annesine koştu. Annesine kağıt kalemle neler olduğunu anlattı. Annesi korkmaması gerektiğini anlattı ama hala perde kıpırdıyordu.

(When Ahmet went to sleep in his room, suddenly, the wind came out. The white curtain is moving. He couldn’t know what to do. He went to his mother, he wrote something on a paper to explain what happened. His mother said to him not be afraid. But the curtain was still moving.)

In his Mother’s army, Ahmet was no longer afraid, but he was still upset because he didn’t remember more about that familiar voice. When he returned to his room, he went to carpet and touched it. Suddenly, he remembered where he had seen white curtains just like this. The cinema in the old town where he lived before moving to the capital city had white curtains! He used to go to watch comedies, animated films and nature documentaries there together with his best friends: Miriam and Deniz. But that voice! Whose voice was that? What is it saying now? Is it a poem or a song?

I think it’a a poem that this voice is telling me!” said Ahmet to himself. It was a poem that he and his friends, Miriam and Deniz liked so much. And then the voice became even more familiar. “The blue sky is ours/So are the birds that we listen to/ And we love all the flowers/ Because they are all blue, too.”

Bu şiiri hatırlamıştı. İngilizce öğretmeni öğretmişti. Derste hep beraber yüksek sesle söylerlerdi. Öğretmeni her ders yeni kelimeler öğretirdi. Kelimeleri kolay öğrenmeleri için şiirler ve şarkılar öğretirdi. İlkokula eski kasabalarında başlamıştı. Küçük ama şirin bir sınıfları vardı. Büyük beyaz tahta, kahverengi sıralar ve rengarenk kitap dolapları vardı. Eski günleri hatırlamak onu çok mutlu etmişti.

(He remembered the poem.His english teacher taught it.They all read it loudly in the classroom.His teacher eas teaching new words every lesson.She used to teach new words with poems and songs.He started primary school in their old town.They had a small but pretty classroom.There was a big white board, brown desks and colourful bookcases.Remembering old days made him happy.)

Eski öğretmenini, okulunu anarken aklına Tolga amca geldi. Tolga amca güler yüzlü, sevgi dolu bir insandı. Hayvanları çok sever, onları besler, iyileştirirdi çünkü Tolga amca veterinerdi. Ahmet’in anıları gözünde canlanmaya başladı. bir gün Tolga amca ile komşuları Eşref’in ineklerinin doğumuna gitmişti. O an hem korkmuş, hem de mutluluktan ağlayabilirdi. Küçücük bir buzağı doğmuştu. Eşref’in babası hayvancılık ile uğraşırdı. Eşref, Ahmet kadar yabancı değildi bu olaylara.

(While thinking his old teacher and school, he remembered uncle Tolga.He was a good humored man.He used to like and cure animals because he was a vet.His memories came to his mind.One day he went to his neighbour Eşref’s barn with uncle Tolga.The cow gave birth . He was scared but also witnessing this event made him very happy.A little caw was born. Eşref’s father was ranching.So this event was very normal for Eşref but it was amazing for Ahmet.)

Çünkü Ahmet büyük şehirde yaşıyordu. İlk kes hayvanların bakılıp büyütüldüğü bir yer görüyordu. Tolga amca bir buzağının doğmasına yardım etmişti. Yeni doğan buzağının nasıl ayaklandığını seyretti Ahmet. Ayaklanan buzağıyı Tolga amca annesinin yanına koydu. Küçük buzağı annesinden süt emmeye başlayınca Ahmet şaşırdı. Veteriner Tolga amca yeni doğan buzağının beslenmesi hakkında şaşıran Ahmet’e açıklama yaptı. Ahmet doğal yaşamın güzelliğine hayran kalmıştı.

(Because Ahmet lived in big city.He had been at the place where animals were raised for the first time.Uncle Tolga helped a calf to be born.Ahmet watched how a new born calf began to walk.Uncle Tolga put the calf near its mother .Ahmet was surprised when the calf started to suck milk from its mother . Uncle Tolga who is a vet explained everything to Ahmet who is surprised about new born calf’s nutrition.Ahmet was amazed at the beauty of natural life.)

Çünkü Ahmet dondurmayı çok severdi. Ama her yediğinde boğazları ağrırdı. Halbuki dondurmacı Ali amca “dondurmanı hemen yeme, sonra boğazın ağrır” derdi. Ama Ahmet dondurmasını hemen yer, sonra hemen boğazı ağrırdı. Ve okula gidemezdi. Ama okulu çok severdi, derslerden de en çok İngilizceyi. Çünkü her İngilizce dersinde yeni kelime öğrenirlerdi. Ahmet de İngilizce öğretmeninin söylediği kelimeleri hep aklında tutardı.

(Ahmet loved ice -cream very much but he had sore throat each time he ate.However, Iceman Uncle Ali said “ You shouldn’t eat ice- cream immediately otherwise you will have sore throat . But Ahmet ate his ice- cream immediately and the next day he had sore throat . And he couldn’t go to school. Çünkü Ahmet akıllı bir öğrenciydi. Öğretmeni bir İngilizce kelime söylediğinde hemen not tutardı. Bilmediği kelimeleri öğrenmeye çalışırdı. Öğretmeni Ahmet’in bu yeteneğini hep takdir ederdi. Bir gün yine İngilizce dersindeydiler. Öğretmen öğrencilerine bir kelime söyledi. Bu kelime zor bir kelimeydi. Hocaları kelimeyi söyledi. Ahmet bu kelimeyi de doğru bildi.

(Because Ahmet was a smart student. When the teacher said a word in English, he would take notes. He tried to learn words he didn’t know. His teacher would appreciate the talent of Ahmet. One day they were in English lesson again. The teacher said a word to the students. This word was a difficult word. But as always, Ahmet knew this word correctly.)

Daha sonra teneffüs zili çaldı. Arkadaşı Ahmet’e bir soru sormuştu. “Ahmet bu kadar kelimeyi nasıl hemen ezberliyorsun?” diye soru yöneltmişti. Ahmet; “Ben her şeyi hemen  ezberleyebilirim. Çünkü ben derste öğretmenlerimin söylediği kelimeleri not defterime yazarım, eve gelince 5 kere aynı kelimeyi yazarım, 5 kere içimden okurum ve 5 kere dışımdan okurum. Bu sayede ezberim gelişir.” diye yanıt verdi. Arkadaşı; “Çok teşekkür ederim, Ahmet” diye yanıt verdi. Ahmet; “Rica ederim” dedi ve zil çaldı. Bu sayede arkadaşı da çok başarılı bir öğrenci oldu. Öğretmen, Ahmet ve arkadaşının hemen ezber yapabilmesini yetenek olarak düşündü ve ikisini yarışmaya gönderdi. Yarışmada birbirlerini motive edip endişelerini yok etmişlerdi ve yarışma başladı. Hakem soruları gösteriyordu. Ahmet ve  arkadaşları o kelimelerin İngilizce, Almanca, Fransızca, Arapça ve Çince anlamlarını yazıyorlardı. Yarışma bu şekildeydi. 1 saat sonra yarışma sona ermişti ve 30 dakika sonra kazanan açıklanacaktı. Süre dolmuştu. Hakem kazananı açıkladı. Kazanan 5/A sınıfından Ahmet ve arkadaşı Pelin’di. Çocuklar sevinçten havalara uçtu.

The winners were Ahmet and his friend Pelin from the 5 / A class. Children flew joyfully.)

Yarışmayı kazanınca çok mutlu olmuşlar. Sevinçlerini aile ve arkadaşlarıyla paylaşıp bir kutlama yapmaya karar vermişler. Davetlilere içinde İngilizce ve Türkçe karşılığı yazan kartlardan hazırlamışlar. Amaçları herkesi İngilizce öğrenmeye teşvik etmekmiş. Yeni kelimeler öğrenmenin kendilerini mutlu ettiği gibi onları da mutlu edeceğini düşünmüşler.

(They shared their joy with their friends and family and decided to celebrate. They prepared guests with cards in Turkish and English equivalent. Their aim was to encourage everyone to learn English. They thought that learning new words would make them happy as well as making them happy.)

Herkes toplanıp kağıtlardaki kelimeleri teker teker ezberlemişler. Ezberlerken de öğrenmişler. Dil bilmenin ne kadar önemli ve güzel bir şey olduğunu şimdi daha iyi anlamışlar. Ve hep birlikte “Bir dil bir insan, iki dil iki insan.” demişler.
