Dubrovnik, Croatia

Dubrovnik a beautiful city in Croatia. We have been fortunate to visit here twice and during our last visit we walked around the wall of the old city and learnt some history and saw some stunning views.

The massive stone walls were completed in the 16th century and they encircle the old town. There are many well preserved buildings and the pedestrian plaza is lined with shops and restaurants.

During the Croatian war of independence in the 1990’s, there was an assault on Dubrovnik and part of the wall was damaged. The JNA (Yugoslav’s People’s Army) was condemned for its attack on the old town as it is a world heritage site.
Part of the wall was damaged during the onslaught, which finished on 6 December 1991.
