Director’s Agenda
Applicants that want to work as an ICT teacher at Shell School must complete the tasks in this agenda in order to prove that they have the prerequisite skills for our school. Late submissions or irrelevant submissions will not be considered. Therefore, you are highly recommended to use the discussion forum in MS Teams or contact İldeniz Özverir from our public relations department via email ([email protected]) if you require any assistance.
Good luck!
Task 1: Inert Knowledge
For us learning is more than memorising facts. So, it is important that learners can actively use their knowledge outside the school settings. In this respect, we would like you to show us that you are well informed about the detriments of inert knowledge to good education and that you can implement pedagogical strategies for effective education.

Task 2:Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century
Part 1: 21st Century Skills
We are preparing our students for the demands and the challenges of the real world. Thus, it is important for us to help learners develop the 21st century skills. In this respect, you are required to write an essay and give information about
- the 21st century skills,
- if the education system in your society helps students develop these skills, and
- what instructional methods/frameworks can be used to develop students’ 21st century skills.
Part 2: Comparison of two teaching methods
The importance of learner centred learning has been argued by many educational researchers and organisations. For example, ISTE recommends some standards for educators and students and in the 5th standard for educators they note that “Educators design authentic, learner-driven activities and environments that recognize and accommodate learner variability”. From this perspective, we would like you to compare two teaching approaches, namely Gagne’s nine events of instruction and authentic learning, and discuss to what extent each can provide the opportunities to give learners 21st century skills.
Task 3: Designing and Developing an E-learning Environment
So far we expect you to show us your knowledge in educational theories. In Task 3 & Task 4 we want to see that you can apply what you know. Therefore, in this task you are expected to use a variety of electronic tools and develop an e-learning environment based on authentic learning theory. Feel free to use any tool that you know and design the learning environment and the task as you wish on any topic that you like. Please bare in mind that “sky is the limit“.
Some tools that you can find in my office and can use to complete these tasks are:
- Google Sites
- Ourboox
- ThingLink
Task 4: Documentation of the Learning Environment
In this final task you are expected to do two things. First, write a report and describe the learning environment (for example, what resources are available and the functionality of each clickable item) you developed. You may use screen captures to visualise these items. Then, you will explain how you applied each of the principles of authentic learning and authentic activities in the learning environment.
PS: Please do not forget to give information about the target learners and the objectives of your course.
All these tasks will prove to us that not only you know 21st century skills and the distinction between teacher centred and learner centred teaching approaches, but also that you can design and develop learning environments based on sound theories as suggested by international organisations.
Good luck!
Things to consider while writing essays/reports:
While writing your essays and/or reports, use APA 6 style and quote primary resources (unless the source is very old and cannot be accessed). The report should be written in 12 font size and Times New Roman font type. It should be typed and printed on a A4 size paper (one sided only) and use 2.5 cm of margins from all sides. The report should have a cover page and on the cover page student’s name, surname, student number and student’s email address should appear. The report must be stapled from the top left corner (potrait).
