Sea level rising has been an issue for a while and everyone is just now realizing what is going to happen to our world if we don’t stop it in time. Many people are trying to find a solution to help stop it and adapt to it before it gets too late and our land goes underwater for good.
You may be wondering why it’s such a big deal and how it started. Well you see, since global warming has become a really big problem and it’s affected lots of the north and south poles. When anything gets heated, it expands and because of that all the glaciers are melting and more water is forming and where do those melted glaciers go? Straight into the already overly heated ocean. It’s a big deal because anyone who lives near the coastal areas will lose their houses and our land will start to go underwater. Right now it is mainly affecting the coastal areas, but after those go underwater, the rest of North America will go underwater and we will have nowhere to live.
Many animals are at great risk as well because they live near and around coastal areas. One species of deer called the Key Deer is currently about to go extinct. Their population is about 800 and if sea levels continue to rise, we may have to say goodbye to those deer. They live a little less than 3 feet above sea level. It’s not just the Key Deer that need our help, many other animals do like the Loggerhead Turtles. Their habitat, beaches, will be destroyed if sea levels continue to rise because the sea levels will rise over the beaches leaving animals like the Loggerhead Turtle and Key Deer with a home. We definitely need to be cautious because the sea levels are rising more and more and it’s getting worse overtime.
We all know that we need a solution or at least a temporary solution for our problem. Well I have a long-term temporary solution, it’s a combination of two great solutions, but i think if everyone works hard enough and cares about this as much as I do we can get it done. I think we need to build seawalls on the outside of beaches and relocate our houses on the coastal areas on high stilts/wood and bring them farther away from the beaches.
This would be a great idea because seawalls would protect the houses from the dangerous tides and rising sea levels. Relocating houses and building them higher would also help very much because that would also protect houses, we need to take all the precautions we can, so this would help keep houses safe and if water does pass the seawalls, houses won’t flood because they will be built higher.
Before we do all of this, I think it would be best to educate everyone on what’s needed to happen, because we could use all of the money and help we could get when making these life changing projects happen. We would need to make sure everyone from grades 5th and above knows what’s going on because they need to know everything that may still be a problem when they’re adults, they might also want to donate. So I think the congress should mandate teaching of this in every single school in the United States. There also needs to be many news articles for how adults could help. I was thinking that we could make many broadcasts showing what’s happening to the Earth so the adults would feel bad enough to donate money or maybe even lend a hand in building this project because all of this is going to affect everyone else if they don’t help because if sea levels continue to rise, then soon all the land would go underwater.
We’ll need a handful of construction workers and lots of money. We will need lots of wood and money to make this happen and it will only work if everyone agrees. We will need at least $42 billion dollars for cities over 25,000 people in population. I think that if everyone helps and donates, we could really make a big change to this serious problem.
In conclusion, we need to make a change and by going with my solution, we would be fine for a long time, long enough time to come up with a permanent solution. Let’s make a change to the Earth.
