Chernobyl Accident
The Chernobyl Accident occurred on April 26, 1986. An accident occurred at the 4th reactor of the power unit due to the malfunctioning of the AZ-5 button

The AZ-5 button is a button for emergency shutdown of the reactor. It is pressed in the most extreme case, when some emergency process begins to develop in the reactor, which cannot be stopped by other means.
The tests of the reactor were supposed to take 4 hours, but lasted only 70 seconds …

“At 1 am 22 min 30 sec” the operator saw on the printout of the program that the operational reactivity margin was a value requiring an immediate shutdown of the reactor. However, this did not stop the personnel, and the tests began.
At 1 am 23 min 04 sec” the SRK (stop-control valves – author) TG (turbine generator – author) No. 8 were closed. The existing emergency protection for closing the SRK … was blocked to be able to repeat the test if the first attempt was unsuccessful … After a while, a slow increase in power began.
At 1 am 23 min 40 sec” the unit shift supervisor gave the command to press the AZ-5 emergency protection button, at the signal from which all the emergency protection control rods are introduced into the core. The rods went down, but after a few seconds there were blows … ”.

Conclusion:
The Chernobyl accident occurred due to the fact that the USSR could not even imagine such a danger and did not care about the station.
Also, because in the USSR everything was only on paper and the government could not support new technologies like the AZ-5 button and therefore. They described her as the escape button which she was not …
