CITY 17

City 17 was a quiet place for a lot of years, maybe too many.

It wasn’t a big city but the people that lived here made it look bigger for the number of their citizens.

It wasn’t a green city but with high skyscrapers that seemed to touch the sky. The city was delimited by high walls. The citizens did not like to go around the streets also for the lack of places to meet and shops; they preferred to stay inside their house and cook by themselves something to eat or sew some clothes.

Even through the city looked modern, the citizens who lived there were stuck in the past.

The people who lived there were kind and helpful and from their face it semed that they didn’t remember what had happened before and through their peaceful eyes they wanted to make forget the catastrophe that happened about twenty years ago.

A meteorite from Jupiter had fallen in the earth destroying everything and killing all the earth’s population except a few survivors, and now all of them live in City 17.

In the city live James, a 17-year-old boy. He is polite and careful but with an adventurous soul. He was tall and thin, he had blonde and curly hair and light blue eyes.

His parents often told him what had happened when the meteorite touched and the need to stay inside the walls.

All the people know him as the paperboy; for his work he woke up early in the morning and went along the streets with his bike when no one was awake. He doesn’t like his work but he can earn some little money.

James loved spending his free time thinking about what was outside the walls all around the city. 

One day, when he was delivering the newspaper, he accidentally crashed with a girl.

Her name was Lili even if he didn’t know yet she was going to become the most important person in his life.

They began to know each other and discovered that they have very similar interests, in fact they were both curious about what was beyond the walls of City 17.

Since the day when they met, they spent all the afternoons together sharing their imagination.

One day, while they were taking a walk they arrived in a point where yhe wall had a small hole and they wanted to go out and see what was outside.

Taken by interest, they went out through the hole and found an infinite deserted field.

They kept walking and step by step they became disappointed with what was outside of City 17 compared to their imaginations. James was tired and asked to Lili to go back, but she wanted to continue.

They touched something hard like an invisible wall. They through it and the view of the desert field disappear.

they open their eyes and find themselves in a dark room of a laboratory with many people watching them.
