Where they were walking quietly and nicely
they saw Poupou the fox
ready to drink water from the river.

-Stop, they shouted to her loudly. Do not drink from this water!!!

-Why, asked Poupou the fox?

-Because the river water is polluted
from the dump up there and
the burnt logs from last year’s fire, Nikos answered to her.

The rivers would not be polluted if people did not burn forests and throw their garbage into the waters.

Don’t they know that all the animals in the forest drink from this river?

If you had not warned me, I would have drank from this water and became ill. If people continue to pollute the water, the animals in the forest will get sick from drinking it.

People grow the fruits and vegetables they eat by using the water of this river. If they eat the fruits and vegetables they grow in this dirty water, they will get sick themselves.

yes you are right it is very sad said the wolf Nikos and….

They felt so helpless. They hugged the fir trees. They stroked the grass.

The forest needed love first.

They felt the sadness in the forest better now. But the forest used to be a joyful place.

Then suddenly they hugged each other.

“What will we do now?” they asked.

They decided to act, join forces and inform the other animals which live in the forest.
They took a stick and put up a label that said:
“Danger! Don’t drink this water you will get sick because it is polluted!”

Then they called Irene the bear, who is strong enough to help them raise woods to build a dam.

26

When they were done with the construction of the dam  they wanted to clean the dirty water so they could drink.

Like this the burnt woods gradually were removed and garbage that people threw in. Nikos, Lakis, Poupou and Irene threw rubbish into the bins in order to have a safe and clean place to drink water from.

To ask help from… Humans? Why not? But how ?

They looked for a sign and suddenly there it was ….a little golden spark down in the forest.

They followed that trail and it brought them to the place where forest animals had a meeting. There were bears, rabbits, wolves, foxes and other forest animals gathered around some letters.

They were letters from all around the world regarding all the same topic : they were very all worried about  the  forest, water, air , food  being polluted. Something had to be done!  In the middle of them peeped a bright little blond girl. She was named  Hope.

Hope said to them that she is going to gather all human friends and ask them for help.

The girl managed to organize a meeting at which all people concerned about the fate of the forest came.

Luckily, Hope knew exactly what to say…

Hope started talking about the fact that garbage can be reused, which is why it is so important to separate it and not throw it anywhere but in the appropriate garbage containers.

At the same time, for example, using recycled paper helps the regeneration of the forest because it avoids cutting many trees to produce it. Moreover  she talked about what could be done to cleanse the air and rivers too.The girl generated in everyone a feeling of confident expectation in the realization of what they wanted.

Together, animals and humans, in order to take care of the whole forest, would have established ecological rules of conduct to follow…

The humans thought about all the beautiful experiences they had in the woods such as going there for picnics with their families. They also enjoyed the serenity the forest provides and how calm it makes them feel. It also gave them the opportunity to learn about the animals snd the plants that are part of this ecosystem.

They thought about how important it is to protect this place, and they decided
that every time they visit the forest they must pick up the trash they left behind and to make sure they have out any kind of fire they have started for cooking.

46

People decided to be more careful from now on. So, every time they go camping they make sure to put out the fires they light and clear their trash up, protecting the forest.

And also the people decided to plant trees in all the places that were burned by the fire carrying trees big and small with them in the hope that the forest will be like it used to be again!

Afterwards, people and animals had a big picnic party.

The slogan was “I LOVE THE FOREST”.

The most famous journalists of the country were invited, to show everyone how a damaged forest can become the best home for people and animals and how we can protect it.
