The Verona Arena

This ancient amphitheatre was built on 30 AD and it was used by Romans as a violent and bloody arena where they used to watch gladiators fight to the death. During the Roman period it was also used for shows and games. Nowadays it is mainly used either as an opera house or for important events such as the Winter Olympics closing cerimony in 2026.

Tip:

As a personal advice we strongly recommend completely going around the Arena in order to appreciate its sheer size and majesty.

’The ancient Romans built their greatest masterpieces of architecture, their amphitheatres, for wild beasts to fight in.’

The Palace of Cangrande

This palace was built in the end of the 13th century by Cangrande the First and during the years it has had the honour to host many influential poets and artists. The most notable artist ever hosted in this palace was Dante Alighieri, an Italian poet who was exiled from Florence and who ended up writing the Divine Comedy.

Tip:

Try to remain silent for a while while inside of the Palace’s Courtyard, you’ll be able to clearly hear the Adige flowing outside of the walls.

Next up: Scaliger Tombs

Scaliger Tombs

The Scaliger Tombs are gothic funerary monuments built by the Scaliger family in order to commemorate great leaders who had passed away. They are exceptional pieces of architecture and they tower amongst other modern buildings in the area.

Tip:

After visiting the so many monuments you’ll probably start feeling hungry, we recommend visiting Verona close to Christmas, so that you can enjoy typical Italian Street Food in the nearby square.

Let us now move on to the heart of our trip: Juliet’s house.

Juliet’s House

This is the famous house where many tourists from all around the world flock to in order to see first-hand the place where Juliet had lived. This is of course fiction however once here we were able to re-enact some of the main events in the plot of the Shakesperian play, which you will find in the following pages. This was only possible thanks to amazing actors such as: Stefano Ramploud, Tommaso Iori, Davide Morelli and Alessandro Delsante.

Tip:

The house is often really crowded by tourists and in this situation we recommend you get your elbows out and make sure you enjoy every single bit of your visit. Don’t let a massive crowd of Chinese tourists ruin this magical experience for you.
