Ready Player One

In the year 2045, the real world is a hard place to live. The only time Wade Watts (Main Character) feels alive is when he escapes to the OASIS. This is an infinity virtual universe where most of humanity spends their days playing with friends or alone. In the OASIS you can go anywhere, do anything, be anyone, the only limits are your own imagination. The OASIS was created by the James Halliday, who left his fortune and total control of the OASIS to the winner of a three challenges that he designed to find a someone to replace him.

When Wade won the first challenge of the treasure , he and his friends are hurled into a fantastical universe of discovery and danger to save the OASIS from wrong hands. James Haliday is the richest person in the world and the creator of the OASIS. The morning of his death sparks a worldwide fascination with the decade in which he lived, the 80’s. It starts a hunt for his fortune through a game while changing Wade Watts’ life forever!

Then, begins a hunt for his fortune and ownership of the whole world with a lot of puzzles based on the obsession with pop culture of halliday. After years of searching for Haliday’s Easter Egg, Wade Watts solves the first clue, he sparks the excitement and hope back to the game. It changes his life forever, pushing him into a world of people willing to kill him for the information he has.

One can come across characters like Batman, Freddy Krueger, and Hello Kitty. It becomes so intense due to the fact that whatever is earned in the OASIS can be taken away if the avatar dies. Wade’s avatar is Parzival, and he  interacts with his friend Arch, a huge muscular mechanic, as well as his other friend samurai Daito and fighter Sho, although he has never met either of them in person.

A company called Innovative Online Industries has a number of players to head in and find the egg to pay off debts. The first challenge was unlocked long ago which is an race in Central Park. Wade enters and uses the DeLorean as his car. The Sixers all arrive as a team. The race begins, and Aech eliminate a lot of Sixers. Wade races ahead and the track is attacked by King Kong. Wade almost makes it to the finish line, and he realizes nobody can make it without Kong destroying them. Then, he realized the way was at the beginning in reverse and try again, and he won the first challenge.

Wade and Samantha gather Aech, Daito, and Sho as they realize the next challenge is a movie. They figure out that the movie they saw is “The Shining”. It brings them to a virtual simulation of the movie. Since Aech has never seen “The Shining”, he ends up encountering the twins, opening the elevator of blood, and running into the creepy woman in the bathtub. Meanwhile, Samantha resolves the puzzle, winning the challenge and being presented with the Jade Key. Thus, She becomes the highest scorer in OASIS.

Wade figures out that the player is not supposed to win the game, but find the Easter egg within “Adventure”, and thereby unlocking the Crystal Key. Since he is still in Aech’s van, and they are now being pursued by Sorrento and his goons, Wade struggles to use all the keys to unlock the vault, but he succeeds and finds the chamber with the Easter egg. He is greeted by Anorak, who presents Parzival with a contract to take over the OASIS, but Wade realizes this is a test reminiscent of when Halliday made Morrow sign over his shares of Gregarious Games, which Halliday regretted. The chamber them disappears to reveal the real Halliday in his own childhood room. He presents Wade with the red button that can shut the OASIS down for good if he chooses to. Wade almost hits it when Sorrento’s van bumps into him. Halliday tells Wade that he ultimately realized that while escapism is fun, the real world is more important.
