Another class, Another school, Another city in a new home only, can I call this home? I could hear the voices of all the students talking and chatting but me. I felt like the invisible man walking through the halls not a single soul told me ‘hi’ or ‘welcome to Cambridge middle school’ nope; nothing but sadness and loneliness cared to stop by at my new locker.

Suddenly, the wind blew the doors open. All took cover… all except me. I just stood there staring at the door with hands in my pocket and the leaves brushing my skin. As I felt the cold wind blast on my head, cooling my scalp, I looked up to see my straight mouse hair dangling in the wind. I could also hear the Strange remarks of my classmates like:

‘’ Why won’t she move?’’ ‘’She’s just. Standing there’’

‘’What’s that’s girl’s name?’’

‘’Her name’s Merkina or Marissa! something like that?!’’

‘’ Her name’s Mellisa’’

1

That was when I recognized that voice. The smooth sound like a bird’s voice, the confident sound. I turned around slowly to see her… her lovely smile, her glistening eyes… It was Amaleena (my childhood friend).

That was when the wind stopped blowing, The teachers came running and told everyone to get to class. I and Amaleena started talking as we went to class. She escorted me to my study hall but as I looked through the little glass window in the door, It didn’t seem that there were many lights in there or anyone.

‘’ Are you sure it’s the right class, Amaleena?’’ I asked my body shaking, my hand vibrating and my lips quivering.

Amaleena then said ‘’Don’t you trust me, Melissa? I know this school like the back of my hand,’’ Her eyes went all cockey and a slow smile spread on her face.

I opened the door and looked back over my shoulder at Amaleena who ushered me into the darkroom. I could just catch a slight glimpse of the school courtyard from the window covered in such a thick amount of dust that the handprint on it was the only way one could look out the window.

On the spur of the moment the door clanged shut. BANG!! It made me jump like a frightened mouse. That was when I realized I was alone or was I? I felt a cold gust of wind rush against my back shifting my hair but not as much as earlier. I turned around to see a pair of yellow glowing eyes and arms as thick as hair reaching out for me. I backed away and it followed me. As I headed for the window, I bumped into the wall making a slight crack in the window but there was no time to worry about that. The figure was coming towards me. So, I leaned back and…

…The window broke and I fell through it falling past all the floors of the school student watching me and gasping at my situation. A million thoughts ran through my head. Was this the end for me? I looked down and saw I was heading for the pool. OH NO! I couldn’t swim. All the teachers and students started rushing out to me. Then, with a giant splash, I landed in the pool sinking like the titanic except I didn’t sink forever. I heard a few screams then I felt the cold breeze across my face, the murmurs of my classmates, and the cold floor of the pool edge. I opened my eyes to see my principal and our lifeguard standing there. He asked

‘’ Mellisa Michaels how many fingers am i holding up?’’

‘’Three,’’ I replied

‘’What were you doing in the storeroom that you fell out the window?’’ Principal Winston asked.

‘’Amaleena told me that was my new class,’’ I said still a bit woozy

‘’Amaleena? But she died in a car accident years ago, it must’ve been her ghost’’ Winston said.

‘’Probably,’’ I returned shaking my head at the thought of my friend’s death.

My classmates helped me off my feet and helped me get home. Maybe, just maybe I was going to have a great and strange time here at Cambridge middle school…
