There are many greens in Nature
And they are all here
I counted
I started with the strongest chromes
Flashing in the sun
Then went through them all
One by one
1

Those with so little green
They are lost in the clouds
They appear in shadows
Lost in the shade
It is not easy to count the greens
They do not come in order
No pattern
Even when you are gazing at them
3

They change
They move
And around them
The clouds and sun battle to contort them
5

My list is not definitive nor completely accurate
And even if it were
Who is to know
For green is in the eyes of the gazer
7

And at many moments throughout
The mind plays games, juggles the greens
Passes them from left to right
From one eye to the other, from back to front
And then there are the other colours
It is easy to forget them
But they are there
En masse
9

And each time they appear
Any appear
They change the green
There are spots of red
And trunks of brown
11

Flashes of yellow
Interjections of lilac
Hints of blue
And little containers of white
13

Dark and light also show their faces
Here
There
Up and down
15

I think I have the complete list
I close my eyes for a moment
Yet when I open them again
I know I’ve lost count
New greens have appeared
Where from?
17

Saw more green today
Now I understand better
The world of green
There are some bare rocks here
But most are green
Coloured flowers of course
Here and there
But the surrounding green
Is all-enveloping
She has brown eyes
He blue
But the eyes in Ireland are smiling
They are green
19

So that is green
No end in sight
No limit
Endless versions, variations
Shades and hues
The story continues
