Wow! What a trip? When I booked my holiday to Hawaii I had some idea
of what I was supposed to see there and how to get to the island but it all
came out completely different. I had planned to travel by plane, but due to
traffic jams I could not get to the airport on time and missed my flight.
While I waited for the next plane to arrive at the airport, I decided to go
for a walk around. I managed to go through most of the stores and bought a
lot of things. Time passed fast and I realized that my next plane was in 5
minutes and I managed to catch it. I arrived in Hawaii after a fifteen-hour
flight. I left the airport and there was supposed to be a car waiting to take me
to the hotel. I waited for an hour, but no one came. I decided to look for
another transport, asked the locals what to travel with and they told me to go
to the city centre and get a rickshaw. Once I reached the centre I grabbed a
rickshaw and we reached the hotel without any problems.
So finally there I
was but at the reception desk they informed me that my reservation had been
cancelled since I arrived late.
I was furious, but decided that it’s not worth it to argue with the hotel
staff and left. I sat outside the hotel for a few minutes and searched in my
phone to see what other options I had for accommodation. And there I saw it,
a backpacking adventure across Hawaii, which included a bungalow. I rang the
phone number on the site and got a reservation for later that day.
I went there in a taxi and I was welcomed by a very polite group of
people. I left my luggage in the bungalow and immediately they invited me to
lunch because I told them my story about the flight and hotel troubles. It was
so warming to feel the politeness and hospitality of the people that
accommodated me. Then they told me to pack my bag for a long hike and wait
for them at the main entrance. I quickly grabbed the things I needed the most
and waited patiently outside. Then I saw the same group of people coming
with 2 jeeps and I knew It was going to be fun.
I hopped in the first car and didn’t really know where I was going. But
then the driver revealed to us that we were going to the most famous volcano
on the island, Kīlauea. I had my head in the clouds from excitement. We drove
for a while and stopped in a car park from where we were going to hike to the
volcano. The road there was a little tough but the views on the way there were
amazing. And then we arrived close to the volcano and the temperature rose
up so we couldn’t get closer to it but we got some amazing photos and on the
way there and back we learned a lot about the history of all the islands,
volcanoes and the local traditions.
The volcano trip was fascinating, but what I
really enjoyed was the long 200-ft beach full with palms, sitting on a sunbed
with an icy drink and swimming in a nice clear water.
Althought I thinked that the Hawaii trip was a fail at first, you never
know what to expect from life and where it can bring you to. Hawaii is a
fascinating destination which should be visited more often. You don t need to
make any reservations, just trust the locals and you”ll have an interesting adventure
