When Detective Wilson was sipping her coffee while looking at some files, a young intern approached her. He was breathless and sweaty from running around.
“Detective, there’s someone who wants to talk to you about the Jacob Ross case. She says she got some really important information.”
Detective was not expecting to talk to someone today.
“Who is it that could have such important information about that case, it’s not an open case to the public?”
“It’s not an outsider, it’s the babysitter, Cate Belivaird.”
Now, she remembered. She definitely was expecting to talk to someone, coffee was not doing any good for her anymore.
“Ah, yes! I’m just going to talk to her right now.”
She grabbed her mug, files and phone; made her

way to the interrogation room, when she got there she saw a blonde woman with blue eyes waiting for her.
“Hello Ms. Belivaird. Thank you for blessing us with your presence, finally.”
“Believe me, detective. I would’ve come here much earlier if I had the chance.”
The woman spoke with an Australian accent.
“What got in your way? We weren’t able to reach you until a few days ago.”
“Martha. She was keeping me hostage, she thought I was going to the police to snitch on her, which I was exactly going to do.”
“What did Martha do, Ms. Belivaird?”
“She killed her husband and I witnessed him so she had to keep my mouth shut.”

“How did you escape from where she was keeping you hostage?”
“She offered me money, a lot of money in the exchange of my silence, I don’t even know where she got it. I accepted it, obviously but here we are now.”
“Then what happened, how did she kill him?”
“She bought a gun a while ago. I always knew she was an extraordinary woman but I was not expecting something like this. When I asked her why she bought it, she told me to mind my business.”
“She told you to ‘mind your business’?”
“That’s what she said. I knew that she was up to something from that moment.”
Detective Wilson was listening to her with great interest.
“Please, go on Ms. Belivaird.”

“Where was I? Oh, yes the gun. Then on February 9, she told me that she’s gonna take the kids with her to her parents’ house tomorrow and I can take the day off.”
She took a sip from her water then continued.
“I did as she said but I was still suspicious about her because they would always go to their parents house together. So I decided to go to the house at 8 pm to spy on him, in case something happens.
In the first few hours, nothing happened but when the clock hit 11 Martha came to the house. I was watching the whole thing from the dining room’s big glass doors. Everything was normal at first but they eventually started yelling at each other which I also consider as ‘normal’ because that’s what happens when the kids aren’t around. But then it happened, Martha pulled out the gun from her jacket and pointed it at Jacob.”
She stopped again, to think about what happened next.

“She shot him, he was bleeding to death. I know I should’ve called the police but I panicked and rushed into the house to confront her about what she did.”
“What was her reaction when she saw you?”
“She panicked as well when I started yelling at her about it. I actually have the whole conversation recorded.”
“You didn’t think about calling the police but you managed to record the conversation between you two?”
“At least I tried don’t judge me.”
They started to listen to the conversation Martha and Cate had.
“WHAT DID YOU DO, MARTHA?”
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?”
6
“I WAS SPYING ON YOU AND JACOB! WHY DID YOU DO IT? YOU KILLED HIM!”
“Cate, calm your voice down! People may hear you.”
“HOW CAN I BE CALM! Y-YOU SHOT HIM!”
“If you can just calm down, I’m going to explain it, alright?”
They could hear Cate’s heavy breathing through the record.
“He was cheating on me and I wanted my revenge. Trust me, this is the best for all of us.”
“You killed him!”
“Oh, sweet Jesus! Yes, Cate. I killed him, get over it. And you’re going to keep your pretty mouth shut about it.”
“No, I’m going to the police, you killed your husband, you should be in jail.”
7
“Ain’t nobody’s going to the police!”
Cate stopped the record and started talking.
“She put me to sleep with that, so there’s no other conversation in the record, you can still listen to the rest of it though.”
“Thank you, Ms. Belivaird. You’ve been a great help.”
After she said that she arrested Martha Ross for the murder of his husband.
