The Adventures of Buzz and Crystal

Oh hi! We didn’t see you there. I am Crystal the butterfly, and this is my best friend, Buzz! He is a honey bee. We’ve only known each other for about a month, but we really have become the best of friends. 

Did you know that bees only live for about 45-60 days and I live for about 30-45 days!

Say hi to Buzz!

Do you know what makes our friendship so special? We both help the environment by pollinating flowers. Although, Buzz is much better at it than I am! Plants like milkweed and wildflowers depend on me to transfer their pollen.

We are both good at our jobs! Along with transferring pollen, I produce honey and there are many benefits that honey has for you humans! 

I love honey!

The honey we make helps you guys to sleep better, it makes sore throats and colds better, and it makes your immune system stronger, which keeps you healthy and strong! 

Buzz is right! Bees do so many great things for humans, and they are STILL scared of them! Honey bees are friends, not enemies! Just like Buzz, he is my bestest friend.

 But, Buzz has been sad lately. He has been sad because most of his friends and family have gone missing. Although, you can help with that!

 Yes, crystal is right, I have been sad lately. Did you know that many of us honey bees are at risk of going missing because of these things humans use called pesticides?

It is a gas that is meant to keep other pests off of the plants, but they don’t know that it can really hurt us bees, butterflies, and many other nice pollinators. So, we need YOUR help! 

Here are some things that you can do to protect me and my best friend Buzz!

1. You can plant a flower garden for us!

2. Be friends with organic farmers, that do not spray that bad stuff on our flowers that make my friends go missing.

3. Tell your parents and friends about us bees and let them know we need their help, because now you know how nice and fun we are!
