The first time

“Nice to meet you, I’m Peter.”

“And I’m Dorothy. A pleasure, I’m sure.”

“Have you ever done this before?”

“No, but  I’ve been thinking about doing it for several years.”

“Me too. I mean I have a really good life, family, everything. But I felt something was missing.”

“I’m married with two young kids. I’m pretty nervous, to be perfectly frank.”

“Me too. But we’ll feel better when it’s over.”

“It’s kind of odd doing it with a complete stranger. But that’s what the agency recommended for the first time.”

“Yes, I guess the difficult part is taking the decision. Once you’ve decided, you’ve decided, right?”

“I guess when the door closes, that’s it.”
“Yes, but actually doing it…”

“Well, we’ll see sure enough. Are you comfortable?”

“Actually I can’t wait to take these things off. We can help each other once we’re there.”

“And of course, the traditional coffee and cigarette when it’s over.”

“And some cognac, don’t you think? To celebrate?”

“Do you want to go first or shall I?”

“I’ll go first, but please don’t stare. I’ll be so nervous.”

“I’ll close my eyes. I promise.”

…..

“Well, how was that for a first time?”

“I’m never going to jump out of an airplane again. But it was quite the experience.”

“You were extremely brave.”

“You were quite gallant yourself.”

“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”

“You mean the coffee? Cigarette?

“And cognac.”

“Let’s. But I’ll just call my husband first to tell him that we’ve landed safely.”
