The Worme of Linton – The Scottish legend and how we imagine it!

Some day at the beginning of May, sitting under our storytelling tree, we read the Scottish legend “The Worme of Linton”

Once upon a time, there was a monster called the Worme of Linton. It’s cave was east of the Linton Mountain and it was called “Warm’s Hole.”

Every now and then the monster hunted for nearby herds. Even the peasants of the Jedburg village, 10 miles away, were so scared that they could leave their village.

Whoever was able to get rid of him and his poisonous breath would be given a huge prize.

At last, a very brave villager Lariston defeated the monster but he didn’t use any weapon.

In his trick he pushed a peat dipped in scolding pitch on his lance into the wormer’s throat

It was aromatic but also burning the monster’s stomach and it suffocated him to death.

As the prize Lariston was given a vast area of land in the neighbourhood.

We are satisfied with our pictures and we admire the brave Laird of Lariston who defeated the monster.

But it wasn’t our last meeting with the monster…

This story reminds us of the Polish legend about the Wawel castle Dragon.
