The Cathedral (or Duomo) is dedicated to St. Mary Matricular and is an example of Veronese Romanesque style.

It dominates a square resting on the ruins of former churches. The Cathedral was consecrated in 1187 but was enlarged in1440.

The originally Romanesque layout is attested to by the double prothyron supported by twisting columns and a couple of winged griffins.

The prothyron is by Maestro Nicolò.

Here there are hunting scenes, prophets and two paladins of the chivalrous Charlemagne cycles, Roland with his sword and Oliver.

These figures testify to the development of an elaborate Christian mythology.
