ALAADDIN MOSQUE AND ALAADDIN HILL
(ALAADDİN CAMİİ İLE ALAADDİN TEPESİ)
The mosque is one of the oldest Seljuk works and was built
on the Alaaddin Hill. Its construction was started during
the reign of Seljuk Sultan Rükneddin Mesud (1116-1156) and
completed during the time of I. Alaaddin Keykubad (1221).
In the courtyard of the mosque are the tombs of I. Mesud,
Kılıç Arslan, II.Rükneddin Süleyman, I.Gıyâseddin Keyhüsrev,
I.Gıyâseddin Keykubad, II.Gıyâseddin Keyhüsrev, IV.Kılıç Arslan
and III.Gıyâseddin Keyhüsrev.

It is written that this mosque, built near the Seljuk Palace, was completed by Sultan Alâeddin Keykubat from the four-line inscription on the door opening to the north. In the two-line inscription on the marble to the right of it, it is written that its architect is Mehmet bin Havlan from Dımaşk and that its trustee is Atabeg Ayaz. On the three-line Arabic inscription on the main door of the mosque, it is written that it was completed in the time of Sultan Alaeddin Keykubat, under the control of Atabeg Ayaz in 1220. In another inscription in five lines, it is written that the construction of the mosque started in 1219 under the control of Atabeg Ayaz with the order of Sultan I. Keykavus. In another four-line Arabic inscription to the right of the entrance door, it is written that the mosque and the tomb were ordered by the son of Sultan Keyhüsrev, the son of Kılıçarslan, Alâeddin Keykubat, in 1219 under the control of Atabeg Ayaz. There are also two Arabic scripts inside a round tile panel on the arch of the entrance door. In these, the titles of the Sultan were stated and in the other article it was written that it was built by Kerimüddin Erdişah in 1220.

It is not known who Kerimüddin Erdişah was and what kind of duties he served. Apart from these inscriptions, there are two more inscriptions on the west wall of the mosque. In both of these, Sultan Alaeddin’s name is mentioned as Keykubat. On the door on the east side, it is written that the mosque, which was destroyed and some parts were destroyed, was repaired by Konya Governor Sururi Pasha in 1889-1890 with the decree of Sultan Abdülhamid II. In the inscription of the wooden pulpit in the mosque, the names of Sultan I. Mesut and his son Kılıçarslan II and the master Ahlatlı Hacı Mengüberti who made the pulpit are written.
