1 DAY IN KONYA
When I woke up in the morning, I couldn’t fit inside of me. There was another journey waiting for me. Outside there was a clear sky and cool air. Everything was available for walking, seeing, exploring. No, it’s not my first time traveling. I have visited many cities before. I discovered many places. I was going to take the high-speed train for part of the journey. That’s why I didn’t fit in.
I was finally on the train. I found my seat. I sat. Soon the train departed. I was curiously checking the speed of the train from the screen inside the wagon. It was written 250 km on the screen, but I had a hard time believing it. Even though the train was going so fast, he was not hugging at all. After a pleasant train journey, I reached the station. My friend Süleyman Şah was waiting for me at the exit of the station. We had a contract. It’s early. When he saw me, he smiled and said, “Welcome to Konya, the city of tolerance and love, Mevlana’s home.” said. At that moment, I felt that I was going to have a great day.
Süleyman Şah said, “Let our first stop be the tomb of Mevlana. Let’s greet him and continue touring the city.” said. On the way to the Mevlana Tomb, Suleyman Shah gave me information about the history of Konya. The history of Konya dates back to the Hittite period. At that time, this area was used as a settlement. Çatalhöyük, which is considered one of the oldest settlements in the world, is also located within the borders of Konya. The city was called Ikonion during the Roman and Byzantine periods. It lived its heyday when it was the capital of the Seljuks. Today, it has the distinction of being the largest city in Turkey in terms of surface area. It has 31 districts. Over two million people live in this city. It was famous for its wide streets, oil loaf and meat bread. My mouth watered while Suleiman Shah was talking about these. I will not hide this.
History and modern city life are intertwined in Konya. This is quite impressive. Alaaddin Hill, located in the center of the city, is quite wide and there are the tombs of Seljuk rulers and Kılıç Arslan Mansion on it. Ince Minaret Madrasa, Karatay Madrasa, Alaeddin Mosque are the first historical monuments that stand out. It is not limited to these, of course, a historical artifact shows itself all over the city.
Especially the village of Sille has taken a place in my mind with its natural structure and history. Sille is an old Greek village. It draws attention with its houses, church and caves from that period. The river that runs through the village and the Devil’s bridge over it add a different spirit to the village. When my Konya trip was over, I felt tired, happy and satiated.
