The Puerto Rican Trench was shaped by a convergent boundary subducting under another. It is located around Puerto Rico. Subduction happens when two convergent plates meet and then one of them slides under another, which is what happened to the Puerto Rican trench. Evidence that supports the conclusion of one plate sliding under another is from the NOAA when it states “Deep trenches are often formed where tectonic plates are being subducted and earthquakes are common.”

This is the Puerto Rican Trench it is about 1,100 miles long and is located at 18.200178 latitudes and  -66.664513 longitudes. It is around 8,400 meters deep. It is the deepest part of the Atlantic ocean. The trench is located at a convergent boundary, where one of the plates slide under another otherwise known as a subduction zone. It is also possible that as the plates moved toward each other they could have caused coral reef that could have been there to sink or get destroyed opening the seafloor to erosion.

Way back before the trench was formed I am pretty sure that it was just a flat piece of seafloor that had a bunch of sand and rock that has been compacted down by the sediment that the waves bring from the beach, it also could have been compacted by animals.

As soon as the plates touched one of them slid under another creating subduction, (subduction is when one plate slides under another normally taking place at a convergent boundary.) this soon caused the trench to form because it made a hole in the ground because the plate went down.

In the future, I believe that the trench will have more wave erosion which will bring sediment into the trench which could eventually make the trench non-existence.

The landform that I am doing is the Puerto Rican trench. The trench is located at 18.200178 latitudes and -66.664513 longitudes. The image to the left is a picture of the Puerto Rican trench. I think that the reason that this formed was because of a plate boundary, most likely a convergent boundary.
