1.Bias
Definition: A bias it’s a judgement on someone or something, who is trained in advance to certain criteria and who is guiding good or bad.
Example: A person can not do basketball because of his size –> It’s a bias.
2. Discrimination
Definition: Actions based on conscious or unconscious prejudice that favor one group over others in the provision of goods, services or opportunities
Example: Japanese family has recently immigrated to Canada. The son is attending a local school and has been bullied because he is from Japan. He is called racist names, pushed around in the hallway, and told to “go home”. The parents complained to the teacher and the principal but the school has not taken any action against the racial harassment, and the bullying has continued. The student does not wish to attend school and his school marks have fallen greatly.
3. Empowerement
Definition: A management practice of sharing information, rewards, and power with employees so that they can take initiative and make decisions to solve problems and improve service and performance.
Empowerment is based on the idea that giving employees skills, resources, authority, opportunity, motivation, as well holding them responsible and accountable for outcomes of their actions, will contribute to their competence and satisfaction.
Example:There are many intangible benefits to my job: great colleagues, interesting tasks, many new challenges, but most of all, empowerment to make decisions in my department
4. Equal Opportunities
Definition:Principle of non-discrimination which emphasizes that opportunities in education, employment, advancement, benefits and resource distribution, and other areas should be freely available to all citizens irrespective of their age, race, sex, religion, political association, ethnic origin, or any other individual or group characteristic unrelated to ability, performance, and qualification
Example: You should always try to hire people with an equal opportunity approach so that everyone has a truly fair chance.
5. Gender
Definition:
Gender is the fact that someone is a female or a male, especially as differentiated according to the social and cultural roles and behavior.
Example:
On your ID card or your passport, your gender is written: male or female.
6.Gender equity
Definition:
Gender equity means fairness of treatment for women and men, according to their respective needs. This may include equal treatment or treatment that is different but which is considered equivalent in terms of rights, benefits, obligations and opportunities.
equity: fairness and justice in handling and treating
equality: identical rights and chances independent of gender
Example:
In some sport,for instance, as women have less muscular strength than men, they do not have to achieve the same goals (for example if you take an exam, they won’t have to run at the same speed to have the top mark or to pass).
7.The weaker sex
Definition:
It is used to refer to women in general: considered offensive by many people.
Example:
In some societies women are seen as more fragile. But now if you think of Wonder Woman, you can see women can be strong.On the other side of the coin,Barbie is a symbol of the weaker sex.
8.Gender Stereotypes
Definition:
Gender stereotypes are simplistic generalizations about the gender attributes, differences, and roles of individuals and/or groups. Stereotypes can be positive or negative, but they rarely communicate accurate information about others.
Example:
A gender stereotype is that the colour pink is only connected to girls,whereas the colour blue to boys.
9. Glass ceiling
Definition: The concept of “glass ceiling” is a situation that does not allow women to progress in the hierarchy of the company but remain up to a certain level.
Example: It seems impossible for a woman to be elected president in a country like France. Women can’t have top jobs, only men!
10. Human rights
Definition=basic and fundamental rights, especially those believed to belong to an individual and with which a government may not interfere, such as the right to speak, the right to associate with anyone else, and the right to work.
Examples: In many countries, children have to work, which doesn’t respect human rights. They should be at school, not working as slaves.
11. Sex
Definition

Example: I had a turtle. We don’t know its sex: is it a female or a male? We don’t know yet!
12. Wage gap
Definition: The difference in salary, mostly between men and women. Women are usually paid 30% less than men for the same job.
Example: Some countries as Iceland think the wage gap isn’t fair, so they have new laws for equality. Some women decided to stop working earlier to protest. They are paid 30% less= they worked 30%less.

Definition: Being unwilling to accept new ideas and opinions.
Example: Being narrow-minded does not help people move on.
15. Sexism
Definition
Sexism is a prejudice or discrimination based on sex.
For example:
At work there is sometimes discrimination against women because they are paid less than men. This is the pay gap.
16. Feminist
Definition
A feminist is an advocate of the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes.
For example:
The suffragettes in England were feminists who wanted women to get the right to vote, just like men.
17. Household chores
Definition: Jobs like cleaning, ironing, washing up that have to be done at home
Examples: I hate household chores but the one I resent is ironing.
18. Harassment
Definition: harassment is a behaviour which is intended to trouble or annoy someone
Example: the party has accused the police of harassment
19. Dare
DEFINITION: to risk, to defy, to challenge.
EXAMPLES: a) Would you dare to do bungee jumping?
b)Don’t you dare to talk to me like that!
20. Stand up for
Definition: If you stand up for someone or something, you defend them and make your feelings or opinions very clear.
Example: They stood up for what they believed to be right.
21. Demonstration
Definition:
(1) Is a march or gathering which people take part in to show their opposition to something or their support for something
(2) Is a talk by someone who shows you how to do it or how it works
Examples:
(a) The demonstration by students to support their rights took place in the town square.
(b) The teacher did a demonstration to show her/his students how to solve a problem.
22. Look after children
Definition: Looking after children means taking care of them, making sure that they are healthy, safe and in good condition
Example: I have a baby sitter that looks after the children when I go out for a drink.
