When an electrical system fails to meet its objective, it should be checked to find the reason why it failed in the first place and find a solution to the failure. More often than not, the quality of the electronic circuit is the main reason why such problems arise. Power quality analysis is the process where the electrical system components are calculated or studied to find out the error in the system.

For What Reason is Power Quality Analysis Done?

Power quality is a critical area in the industrial facility which when improperly wired, incorrectly grounded, and is unbalanced with loads can send electrical noise through the system and can compromise power quality. That is why it is very important for power quality analyzers to go through several steps and procedures to avoid such things from happening. Current power systems should be monitored to increase inconsistencies in the entire system.

The aim of Power Quality Analysis

Power quality analysis aims to assess the electrical environment at a part of the facility in order to improve modeling methods or to build up a power quality reference and forecast the future functioning of load equipment or power quality diminishing equipment. It also aims to avoid excessive energy consumption, breakdowns, and productions interruptions. Furthermore, power quality analysis also avoids transformer overheat, capacitor burst, trip, voltage/frequency fluctuations & PLC hang-up.

Benefits of Power Quality Analysis

Power quality analysis offers a lot of benefits which include the following. Early detection of the problem means that it is easier to address and increases the chance of costly interruptions to operations and the need for emergency repairs during inconvenient times. It has the capacity to identify different anomalies which could lead to inefficient operation or failure. It helps in diagnosing problems before an unwanted event recurs. It also supports forensics to determine how a chain of events occurred as it did to pinpoint the root cause of the problem and to find out power quality problems that can prematurely age equipment. It is used for pre-function testing of systems to find out their responses and simulate transient events and ensures equipment performance. You will be able to monitor and trend conditions and evaluate performance against specifications. Also, it assists in the preventative and predictive maintenance, assesses the sensitivity of process equipment to disturbances, and identifies the source and frequency of events. You will also be able to analyze and examine Flicker, sounds, voltage variations, the transient rate of recurrence variation and develop maintenance schedules

Indeed, a good power quality is of utmost importance in highly technological facilities. Highly technological facilities include hospitals, manufacturing plants, data centers and so much more. It is very important in low technology facilities as well. When the power quality is compromised, severe damages which is very costly may occur. It also reduces the productivity of both power supplier and user as interruptions will surely happen. It is very important that the power quality of each facility should be checked and monitored every now and then as these can be risky in case an error occurs.
