(Dr. Mel… Dr. Mel… Dr. Mel wake up!!)

Oh… hello children.

Welcome to “Show and tell with Dr. Mel”.

Heh heh heh…I was just snoozing a little bit.

Well, welcome to my show. And today show we have a letter, and the letter is from Mary, and she is from Poughkeepsie. And what Mary would like to know is “Why don’t we have a whale on the show”.

2

Well, Mary, whales are generally pretty big. The biggest whales are as tall as a building, they weights as much as 40 big elephants.

But, some whales are smaller.

And actually, today on the show, children, we are very fortunate, we are so lucky, to have Jonah, the world’s tiniest whale. He is so tiny that he lives in this cup, and actually it is almost impossible to see him, he is so small..

Let’s see if we can wake him up:

“Good morning Jonah! Good morning!”

He… he is up. He says “Good morning”.

Actually, Jonah is from France, so we should say hello to him on French I think.

“Bonjour Jonah, comment Ça va??

He says “Ça va bien”, which means everything is o.k. in French.

One second. Ha! He says he speaks english. He learns English in school. Are you going to school Jonah? Why aren’t you in school now?

7

Well, it’s so great to have you on the show.

Do you want to tell us a few things about whales that children don’t know?

Ahh… Ahh..

Well, he says children, that whales are a little bit like us: they are mammals, they have babies,

but they live their whole life in the sea,

and they breath air, just like we do, through a hole at the top of their head.

We don’t do that, thought, we have noses.

And what else? They eat tiny little things, called krill, there are some people who eat krill too.

Yes.

And what else? They sing songs! I didn’t know that whale sing songs. You sing songs, Jonah? He says that actually he write his own songs. That’s wonderful! Well, maybe you could sing a song and I’ll sing it for the kids??

Ta da, ta da, oh… oh…

Whawoo..

Let me sing that song for you kids:

10

“I’m Jonah the whale,

I’m a whale of a whale,

I’ve got a blow hole

I’ve got a tale

I like to swim

And I like to swale

That’s why I’m Jonah the…

That’s why I’m Jonah the…

That’s why I’m Jonah the…

Whale”.

11

Did I get that right?

He said its sale, not swale.

Ok, I’ll try to remember that.

Ha.. I think I hear the phone ringing…
