THE CHESTNUT OF MARSICA

(IL CASTAGNO DELLA MARSICA)

Once upon a time there was a young shepherd with his flock.

C’era una volta un giovane pastore con il suo gregge.

One day while he was grazing his flock he heard and saw a hungry wolf.

Un giorno mentre pascolava il suo gregge sentì e vide un lupo affamato.

The pastor to repair himself and his flock headed for a chestnut grove and stopping under an old chestnut tree.

Il pastore per riparare se stesso e il suo gregge si diresse verso un castagneto e fermandosi sotto un vecchio castagno.

The wolf approached and the shepherd was increasingly afraid ….. suddenly the branches of the chestnut bent and formed a fence around the flock.
The wolf went away with its tail between its legs.

Il lupo si avvicinava e il pastore aveva sempre più paura…..ad un tratto i rami del castagno si curvarono e formarono intorno al gregge un recinto.
Il lupo andò via con la coda tra le gambe.
